This year’s Booker Prize winner announced
Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka has won the British Booker Prize. The author was awarded this title for the book “The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida”. This is reported on the Booker website. The award was presented to the writer by Queen Consort of Great Britain Camilla. Karunatilaka will also receive $50,000 as a prize.
The story takes place in Sri Lanka in the 1980s, during the civil war. The story follows the soul of a deceased photographer who doesn’t know who killed him and tries to lead his living loved ones to a cache of photographs. He hopes that the pictures will become public and surprise the country. But Maali Almeida does not have much time: everything is only a week (seven moons).
