Viktoriia Kachur: How a Ukrainian Model is Conquering the U.S. Fashion Industry

Being a model isn’t just about beauty—it’s about ambition, perseverance, and daily hard work. Viktoriia Kachur, a Ukrainian model who has collaborated with renowned brands and walked at major fashion weeks, shares her journey of relocating to the U.S. and establishing herself in the American modeling business. How do the rules of the game differ across countries? What challenges do Ukrainian models face in the U.S.? And where should aspiring models begin their careers? Find out in our exclusive interview.

You hold two master’s degrees—one in law and another in education. How have you managed to balance these fields with modeling, and do you ever see yourself returning to those professions?

I’ve always believed that education is an investment in oneself, opening doors to new opportunities. Law taught me strategic thinking and attention to detail, while education helped me develop strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate ideas effectively. These skills have proven invaluable not only in modeling but also in business and networking. Will I ever return to these fields? Life is unpredictable, but for now, I’m fully focused on advancing my modeling career and growing my own business.

You’ve worked with leading Ukrainian brands both in the U.S. and in Ukraine. How does the modeling industry differ between these countries, and what aspects of working in each have stood out to you the most?

The main difference lies in scale and approach. In Ukraine, the industry is more intimate, often built on personal connections. In the U.S., everything operates on a systematic level—agencies, castings, contracts, and intense competition. There are also more opportunities for diverse models, regardless of age, height, or body type. One of the most memorable moments for me was my first major shoot in the U.S.—it was challenging but provided invaluable experience and opened new doors.

You moved to the U.S. in 2022. What were the biggest challenges you faced as a Ukrainian model in America, and what helped you adapt?

The biggest challenge was starting from scratch in a country with completely different industry standards. I had to build my portfolio, find agents, and establish connections. The competition is fierce, but my persistence, willingness to learn, and dedication to working harder than others kept me going. My fluency in English and ability to adapt quickly also played a crucial role in my success.

What were the defining moments in your modeling career—those that truly propelled you forward?

Signing my first contract in the U.S. was a pivotal moment, confirming that I was on the right track. Every new project with prestigious brands and photographers pushes me to new heights. But the most fulfilling part is seeing the results of my hard work—whether it’s a magazine cover or a major advertising campaign.

What advice would you give to Ukrainian girls dreaming of a modeling career in the U.S.? Where should they start, and what should they focus on?

First and foremost, understand that modeling is not just about looking good—it’s demanding work. Start by building a strong portfolio, researching the market, and finding a reputable agency. Confidence, professionalism, and self-care are key. And most importantly—don’t fear rejection. It’s a natural part of the journey. If you have a goal, pursue it relentlessly, even when the path seems tough.
