On the eve of Quentin Tarantino criticized the popularity of the actors who played in Marvel projects. “There are all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they are not movie stars,” said the cinematographer. “Captain America is a star. Thor is a star. The heroes of these films are stars, [not actors],” said the director.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu reacted to the director’s remarks. “If Tarantino and Scorsese were the only door to popularity, I would never have had the opportunity to helm a $400 million+ film,” the actor said.

“No film studio is and never will be perfect. But I’m proud to be working with a company that makes an ongoing effort to improve on-screen diversity by creating heroes that empower and inspire people from all communities around the world,” the actor tweeted.
