Kanye West says Tarantino stole the idea for Django from him

The rapper and entrepreneur, in a new interview with Piers Morgan Uncensoredʼ, accused the director, along with actor Jamie Foxx, of stealing his idea.

West said he pitched a similar idea to Tarantino and Focus when he was initially considering the video for his 2005 song “Gold Digger”. In 2012, Tarantino released the revisionist western Django Unchained, about a sacked slave (played by Jamie Foxx) working with a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to rescue his wife from a plantation.

“Tarantino can write a film about slavery, which he and Jamie really took from me because I pitched the idea for Django to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as a video for Gold Digger. And then Tarantino turned it into a movie,” the rapper said in an interview.

The answer preceded Morgan’s question: “Do you think there are limits to free speech, and if so, what are they?” West went on to explain how Tarantino’s film demonstrates the lack of restrictions on free speech, given that the film is full of racist slurs and continues to be readily accepted by audiences.
