YouTube is phasing out an obsolete and annoying ad format – overlay banners
The YouTube video service will no longer show overlay ads when a banner ad is displayed over the video window at the bottom.
This format has been preserved in the desktop version of the YouTube site until now, but Google has finally recognized such ads as outdated and disturbing users. As a result, this ad format will no longer appear on the platform from April 6th.
The impact on content creators is expected to be minimal, as ads will simply work within YouTube’s other available formats.
