Tragedy in the Alps: LEGO Executive Michael Hælby Dies in Skiing Accident
A devastating loss has shaken the LEGO Group and Danish elite circles — top executive Michael Hælby has died following a skiing accident in the Swiss Alps.
Hælby, 64, was vacationing at the exclusive resort of Verbier when he suffered fatal injuries in the “Four Valleys” area, known for its steep and challenging terrain.
Despite being airlifted to a nearby hospital, doctors were unable to save him due to internal bleeding caused by the fall.
LEGO CEO Thomas Kirk Kristiansen expressed his grief, calling Hælby a trusted colleague and friend. “Our hearts are with his family during this incredibly difficult time,” he stated.
Hælby was not only a key figure in the toy industry but also a close confidant of Danish royals King Frederik and Queen Mary, attending many family and official events over the years.
His death follows another tragic incident in the business world: Mango founder Isak Andic recently passed away in Spain after falling during a hike near the Montserrat mountains.
